Reflecting on our recent third annual Overdose Awareness Health Sovereignty event, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who joined us in making it a resounding success. From our esteemed keynote speaker to our dedicated volunteers and supportive vendors, we extend our heartfelt thanks for contributing to the triumph of this event. The atmosphere at Tahoma Indian Center (TIC) was electric as we commenced our Overdose Awareness Health Sovereignty day. The day began with a mouthwatering salmon bake, filling the air with the aroma of tradition and community. As attendees indulged in this delicious feast, they were treated to a vibrant display of art, showcasing the creative expressions of our community members. Rose Island Farm, with their wealth of knowledge, enlightened us about the healing properties of herbal teas and the transformative power of accudetox. Their presence added a touch of natural wisdom to the event, reminding us of the importance of holistic approaches to wellness. The Tacoma Pierce County Health Department played a pivotal role in our event, providing invaluable information and resources to raise awareness about overdose prevention and harm reduction. Their commitment to public health and dedication to serving our community were evident throughout the day. One of the highlights of the event was the presence of Canoe Journey Herbalists, who generously shared their wisdom and Traditional Medicine practices. Their guidance and advice resonated deeply with attendees, emphasizing the significance of cultural healing and the power of ancestral knowledge. Overdose Awareness Health Sovereignty day served as a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting those afflicted by addiction. It was a day of unity, compassion, and education, as we came together to address the pressing issue of overdose and its impact on our community. By fostering an environment of understanding and empathy, we hope to break down the barriers that prevent individuals from seeking help and accessing the resources they need. As we reflect on this event, we are reminded of the urgent need to continue advocating for overdose awareness and prevention. Addiction affects individuals from all walks of life, and it is our collective responsibility to offer support, resources, and hope to those who are struggling. By working together, we can create a community that is resilient, compassionate, and committed to the well-being of all its members. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of our Overdose Awareness Health Sovereignty event. Your presence, participation, and dedication are instrumental in our ongoing efforts to address addiction and promote healing within our community. Let us continue to stand together, united in our commitment to overdose awareness and the pursuit of health sovereignty for all. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, please reach out to the appropriate resources in your community. Together, we can make a difference. In solidarity, Tahoma Indian Center
